di origine irlandese, noto anche con il diminutivo “Jack”, è stato il primo presidente degli Stati Uniti d’America di religione cattolica e il più giovane in assoluto. Fu anche il primo presidente statunitense a essere nato nel XX secolo e il più giovane a morire ricoprendo la carica (gli sopravvissero tre predecessori: Hoover, Truman ed Eisenhower). La sua breve presidenza, in epoca di guerra fredda, fu segnata da alcuni eventi molto rilevanti: la crisi di Berlino del 1961 con la costruzione del Muro, la corsa alla Luna, la conquista dello spazio, l’invasione di Cuba e il progetto segreto per abbattere il regime di Castro con lo sbarco nella baia dei Porci, la crisi dei missili di Cuba, gli antefatti della guerra del Vietnam e l’affermarsi del movimento per i diritti civili degli afroamericani.
fu assassinato il 22 novembre 1963 a Dallas, in Texas. Lee Harvey Oswald fu accusato dell’omicidio e fu a sua volta ucciso, due giorni dopo, da Jack Ruby, prima che potesse essere processato. La Commissione Warren concluse che Oswald aveva agito da solo; tuttavia nel 1979 la United States House Select Committee on Assassinations dichiarò che l’atto di Oswald era stato probabilmente frutto di una cospirazione, con l’appoggio della CIA, il cui ex-direttore Allen Dulles, ancora potente, avrebbe avuto rancore per essere stato silurato da Kennedy dopo il fallimento dell’invasione di Cuba. La questione se Oswald avesse o meno agito da solo rimane dibattuta, con l’esistenza di numerose teorie cospirazioniste.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy of Irish origin, also known by the diminutive “Jack”, was the first president of the United States of America of the Catholic religion and the youngest ever. He was also the first US president to be born in the twentieth century and the youngest to die covering the post (he survived three predecessors: Hoover, Truman and Eisenhower). His brief presidency, during the Cold War era, was marked by some very important events: the 1961 Berlin crisis with the construction of the Wall, the race to the Moon, the conquest of space, the invasion of Cuba and the secret project to bring down the Castro regime with the landing in the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban missile crisis, the background of the Vietnam war and the emergence of the movement for the civil rights of African Americans.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. Lee Harvey Oswald was accused of the murder and was in turn killed, two days later, by Jack Ruby, before he could be tried. The Warren Commission concluded that Oswald had acted alone; however in 1979 the United States House Select Committee on Assassinations declared that the Oswald act was probably the result of a conspiracy, with the support of the CIA, whose ex-director Allen Dulles, still powerful, would have had a grudge for having been torpedoed by Kennedy after the failure of the Cuban invasion. The question of whether or not Oswald had acted alone remains debated, with the existence of numerous conspiracy theories.
